BTS WITH GYPSET

Location

For the first Gypset campaign, we chose Sedbergh, a town nestled in the hills of the North of England, offering majestic scenery. Surrounded by hills, bridges, and streams, our base was a charming cottage in the idyllic hamlet Milthrop.

Prep

The shoot preparation begins a day before, with the team arriving to get organised. After a good old chit-chat and choosing our wish list, we get to work merchandising the range in order of shooting and styling the outfits. All items used, from jeans to tees to shoes, are vintage. It was the obvious choice to work with our repurposed range

That Night

Our Model Lauren arrives, and we all sit down to homemade lasagna, water, and herbal tea. After discussing the highs and lows of the industry, we fall into bed to prepare for an early start the next day.

Shoot Day

Rise and shine at 7 am for an early start to catch the best light. I discussed the make-up with Jo, and she went to work to create her magic. We begin with a natural look, then work towards smokey eyes for a post-evening vibe. After a strong coffee and a warm croissant, we step out into the sunshine.
It was October; it was chilly. It's the North; we are used to this, right? The grass was long and wet from the night before, and there were a few gates to climb over. Who said this industry was glamorous?

Lighting

We chose to shoot the campaign for Gypset on film. I have loved this photography for as long as I can remember. Reminiscent of the grainy images of childhood holiday snaps and school discos. We wanted to capture the era, the brand's philosophy reimagining, bringing the old into the new.
Maddie, our behind-the-scenes expert and I chatted over the sequence of outfits and shooting locations based on the time of day and lighting with Imogen, our very talented photographer.

Fuel

We stopped for lunch of cheeses, breads, hummus, olives and lots of other delicious dishes. We finished off with macroons and chocolate. A girl has to keep her strength up, right.

Part 2

Just a few minutes walk from the cottage; we find a stunning river beside the perfect field with rolling hills as the backdrop. Styling with hats from Maddie's house, we lark about dancing like no one is watching. Standing there, I smiled, click after click, as the shoot fell into place, one perfect backdrop after another. I knew these images were going to be amazing.

Before Dark

In the afternoon, we made our way over to the centre of Sedberg, where the house of our dreams lay in wait. We finished with applause, a small glass of organic wine and slumped into some extremely comfy sofas.
