What to wear with a Kantha Jacket
Band Tee's x Gypsy Florals 🎸
The obvious way to wear a Gypset Kantha Jacket is to throw it on with jeans and your favourite tee. Yes, it's as easy as that. Don't overthink it; let the jacket do the talking. It could be Liberty Florals or an I'm with the band vibe tee, whatever you like. Our tees were sourced from a vintage shop in Manchester's Northern Quarter called Cow. Tips for buying vintage tees - always choose 100% cotton or natural fibres. Check the label to see how old it is. Try it on as it may have shrunk after many years of being washed, and what it says on the label may not correspond with the actual fit.Â
Denim x Denim 👖
Go double denim—yes, it's okay now to double up. It's even cool, might I add. It's been quietly eating up the fashion game since the 80s – and long gone are the days of it being a fashion don't. It's okay to mix shades of denim, and complete clashing works here, as does all one shade. If you are lucky enough to have a vintage denim waistcoat like the 70s Wrangler one we shot here, Fitted or loose, it doesn't matter with your fireworks Kantha Jacket thrown over the top.  Â
Heritage x 70s Bohemia 🦋
For the more bohemian out there, pull out your favourite maxi dress or skirt, pattern or plain and pop your jacket over. Chances are it will work, as I believe when we buy clothes, we are attracted to prints and patterns we know will suit us. We paired it with heritage checks to take the look into autumn and winter. Just choose a Kantha in your colours, and your wardrobe will do the rest. You could belt the jacket in for a neater look, but we left ours loose for a casual feel. The Repurposed Kantha Jacket from Gypset, with its intricate rows of running stitches and one-of-a-kind prints, is perfect for this laid-back vintage vibe.
Garment Spotlight
The Kanthas are the fireworks, the pop of colour to your neutrals with a feel-good factor. Exaggerated floral or ditsy geometrics, the trick is choosing the colours that suit you and the pattern that reflects your personality, whether a paisley floral or Versace esc trompe l'oeil. They are one of a kind; how you wear them is up to you. They are stepped with character and history to become part of yours.
Gypset and Rainbow Kantha Jackets and Coats have layers of padding to add weight and warmth. They are also incredibly easy to wear and layer over knitwear. They are fully reversible, with pockets on both sides and no visible labels. Turn back the cuffs to reveal the reverse pattern and pop on your woollen wrist warmers; add your favourite beanie or snood, and you're good to go.
